I've done an artwork with the same title... but it's really different ;)
By the way, well done work.

The subject matter to me is a lot like a romance novel cover, so I'm not really into it. However, when I loaded up the image I really said "wow" out loud when I saw the water and the shirt. I seem to find the man's body slightly out of proportion in the legs compared to his upper muscle size and he seems a little stiff in the neck area (I think this is due to too strong a jaw line under his neck. He is looking down, and the skin would build up and take away from the jaw line). Ah, but that's all fussy stuff, really great technique. ... damn that water is good!

arenhaus

 12/17/03 @922

Not bad. The water's fair, the figures all right (apart from slight proportion problems mentioned above). The effect of wet cloth quite plausible. The clouds are more than a little waxy, though, and there are bits where I do not agree with your shading, especially the man's chest and nose, and that particularly colorless patch under the woman's arm.

Nice romance concept but not up to your usual standards.

I think if you are going to use reference pictures for clouds, also read up on what type of cloud it is because that will make it more relalistic when you know more than the visual aspect of it.

Looks excellent. +7
As for a crit- the waves are looking too small to have a 'barrel' like that, usually you just get foam at the coast... doesnt matter all that much but its making your figures look gigantic.

Who cares if the subject is romance, its still darn beautiful, besides nice to see something other than faries and elves or warriors for a change.....I can dream sweet things tonight. :)If I only had that man! lol [although I probably shouldn't say that when it's a tragedy depicted....}

She's got the blue skin of a drowned one.
Good work there.
Thoghtfully done, although the whole scene makes me curious now.
These days, I want to know what it is the artist is trying to tell, background and foreground of the pictures story...
Why are they dressed like that, and why are they near the ocean...He's dressed like a character from Anne Rice's works, and she's dressed like as if she stepped out of Morganna's realms.
Odd, and nice.

GlassShard

As dramatic and sweeping as this painting is, the strong emotion you've tried to convey kinda falls flat to me because the guy looks so dang serene. He seems to be falling asleep on his feet, not anguished. I really, really wish his expression had more life to it - it's just placid, sleepy, and blank. I've found that artists get so afraid to make their faces anything but transcendently beautiful that they won't play with expressions. Yes, it's not as attractive when faces are scrunched up with grief, but it's a lot more powerful than a placid mask.

Otherwise, I love how his left hand is splayed. Nice detail. The water's cool too. The lighting is off tho'. It's so even on the figures yet the clouds have strong light coming on 'em from the right. It kinda makes it look like they're on a stage with a canvas backdrop behind 'em.

I adore how you don't have her boobs flying everywhere. Most people would have her clothes ripped off and her pundenda flapping, but you restrained yourself. Good job.

All in all this is a pretty kickass painting. But keep your focal points in mind and make them jive with your theme. The focal point here is Sir's face and he looks bored with himself.

Walterz

 12/21/03 @151

Great job, but it looks like you used two separate pics for references because the lighting is not working for both of them. It works for each separately, but not together. I also think the waves are too small to be crashing into the rock like that, unless these two figures are supposed to be giants...

And the figures are oddly bright considering the weather conditions.

Very nice!
however I experienced one setback while viewing the image...
I kept hearing a guy screaming "MARIA!!!" in my head and the name "Fabio" popped in to mind a few times.
Otherwise I love it. Maybe a little more uniqueness in his face actually... for some reason I feel like I've seen his face a thousand times before.
*shrugs* I like :)

 12/23/03 @673

The details are very nice, but i think the whole piece could use more shadows. Right now I feel the charcters are not really in the landscape, just atop it. I think proper shadow and light play would bind the two more convincingly. PS> did you consider possibly some mist, especially around the man's legs, that would really put him IN the landscape as well...

Wow this is dramatic and sad. Her body is so.... limp. And her skin tone is just so cold and sad. The clothing is great, very wet looking!!. I think the man needs more of a emoptional expression but you can't have everything? haha.

BRILLIANT JOB. But I really love the vib off thid painting and the womans body. It's very sad. The background is also very brilliant!
